Bottombumpers One Size All in One Up Close-and a giveaway!

Giveaway is now closed. Winner is comment #184, AEK! She has been contacted-if she doesn't respond, I'll post back with a new winner.

I borrowed this post from my 9/3/10 post over at Cloth Diapers Made Simple, but the giveaway is completely new. Enjoy!
~Michelle at Snooty Booty Diapers

Bottombumpers was one of the last brands to offer sized-only diapers, so I knew it was only a matter of time until they developed a one-size diaper. I wondered though, if a one size version would stay true to the trim-fitting design of their sized diapers. One of the brand's great features is the trim fit. It's really hard to keep a trim fit in a one-size while providing enough coverage for larger babies on larger settings.

Would it keep a great fit? And what about the adjustment? For a while, Bottombumpers kept it hush-hush. Retailers knew it wasn't a snap-down rise, but it wasn't adjustable elastic. It was hard to think of what the adjustment might be.

A couple of months ago, retailers were allowed to purchase a one-size sample to try out. I was very excited to receive the one-size diaper...until I opened the package. When I took it out, I was sure that Bottombumpers had sent me a sized diaper by accident. They looked exactly alike! To show how easy it is to confuse them, I lined up 3 diapers here. 2 are sized, and the yellow one is one size. It blends in so well!

After some poking around the diaper, I discovered that it was, in fact, a one size diaper. The adjustment is snap-down, but not on the rise. It's ingeniously hidden underneath the snap in soaker! Once the soaker is in place, it's impossible to see. The placement of the snaps allows the diaper to retain the great Bottombumpers trimness, but it's faster to adjust than leg elastic.

The size settings are color-coded, so you never have to worry about putting the diaper at 2 different settings. Brilliant!

Since the diaper accommodates 4 size settings, it's not quite as trim on the smaller settings at the sized Bottombumpers. It is less bulky than many other one size brands, thanks to the smooth, snap-less rise. The absorbency of the soakers is great, and the materials are the same that you are used to in the sized version. To help compare, the green diaper is the one-size on the second setting next to a medium size blue.

The verdict? I really like this diaper and was excited for its release. Since it's looking like we might have outgrown our medium Bottombumpers before my daughter potty-trains, I'm glad that I'll be able to move her easily to the next size setting on the one-size. It's trim enough that clothing fits easily over the diaper, and she does well with the absorbency. If you're really concerned about getting the trimmest fit, then you should still consider the sized diapers. Otherwise, the one-size is a great way to go!

Right now the one-size is available in 6 colors and in side-snaps only. Enjoy free shipping on the one-size version until 9/15/10 with code "bbfree". You'll also receive a coupon code to use on your next Bottombumpers purchase-since you'll definitely be back to buy more!

Gro Via for the first time

Gro Via diapering system is a one size cover with a snap in soaker. The touch tape fabric and innovative laundry loop were the wonderful features that jumped right out at me when I first saw this diaper. Then I opened the diaper and WOW the snap in soaker was plush and the elastic running along the sides was absolutely fantastic. My first impressions were above and beyond what I expected.

Let’s break down this hybrid diaper starting with the shell or cover for us old timers. The Gro Via shell is a one size shell covering from infant to potty learning. Simply snap down the front of the shell to give your baby the perfect fit. The shells come in a wide variety of colors and some of the cutest prints around. The wide loop fabric at the waist allows for a customized fit - angle the tabs down to narrow in the waist or angle them up to narrow up the legs.

Now on to the snap in Organic Cotton Soaker. You want to talk about fluff and design you will find both in these soakers. The best part is they are organic to boot. The snap in feature keeps the soaker right where it belongs so there is no shifting while on baby regardless of how rough baby plays. Gro Via put a touch of elastic in the leg portion of the soaker to better contain anything the baby can put out. The elastic helps keep the poop in the soaker and off the shell so you can use the shell again and again.

For those babies that like to hold things in for awhile and then let it all out at once you can add on Boosters in either organic cotton or a stay dry option if you prefer. The organic option adds three thirsty layers of absorbency and the stay dry also has three layers of absorbency with a fleece topper.

Come on over to Snuggle Hugs and have a peek at them. While you’re there check out the Magic Stick diaper ointment and the Bio-liners that are flushable.

All in all I was very impressed with this diaper and I believe you will be too. The best part is they are on sale right now, giving you the opportunity to try out a great new diapering system at a discount.

Thanks for reading,

Top Picks for Newborn Diapers & Giveaway (Closed)

Congratulations to Madeline Miller!
You are the winner of the lil Joey 2-pack giveaway!!

Hi! This is LeAnn from Giggle Britches. I am anxiously expecting the birth of my third daughter due in November! I can't wait to use my newborn "fluff" again! If you want to cloth diaper your baby right from the very beginning, it is a good idea to invest in a newborn stash. Many of the popular "one-size" options out there don't fit newborns well. What do I suggest? Here are my top picks for your itty bitty babe:

1) Prefolds with Thirsties Duo Wraps, Size One (6-18lbs) - Newborn babies and young infants use up to 12 diapers a day! There is no more economical way to cloth diaper your tiny baby than using prefold diapers. You can fold them down to the exact size needed, and prefolds are very absorbent. The Thirsties Duo makes the perfect compliment to the prefold. The leg gussets keep in any messes that may escape the prefold. It is even smaller than many x-small covers out there, with the advantage of growing with your baby!

2) Kissaluvs 0's (5-15lbs) - The thick terry pile of the KL0's make it a perfect diaper for stopping those newborn poops in their tracks! The size o snaps down in the front to help keep the diaper away from baby's healing cord stump. They are more pricey than prefolds, but do a better job of keeping messes in the diaper and off the cover.

3) Lil Joey (4-12lbs) - This diaper is a special all-in-one designed with the intent to fit babies before a one-size option will work. The Lil Joey also snaps down in the front to protect baby's healing cord stump. This diaper has leg gussets which contain messes really well. It is also a great choice for parents looking for a one step diaper change. It will even fit your preemie!

Are you building your newborn stash? Giggle Britches can help! I am giving away one Lil Joey 2-pack in a gender neutral color!! Read on to learn how to enter. Hurry, giveaway ends 8/10/10!

Cloth at Daycare

Hi, I am Sharni of Nappy Shoppe. My youngest son, Braden, is still in cloth diapers. Although, at 2 he is starting to train. Recently he started going to a Mothers Day Out program at the local church a couple of mornings a week. He goes to the same one his older brother went to a couple of years ago. So when I called to book him in, I said, he is in cloth, is that a problem? Given that the coordinator is a good friend who has watched my business grow, I think she felt obligated to say that it was fine. I do wonder if she worried that it would be tough to do.

So given I had heard from others who had been told that they were NOT welcome to bring cloth to their day cares, I decided to make it as easy as possible for Braden's new caregivers. I didn't want them turning around saying that it was too messy or too hard to do.

So we raided Daddy's stash of diapers (You can read about Braden's Daddy here). Daddy's stash consists of AIO (All in One Diapers) with Aplix/Velcro closures. These are the simplest diapers I believe to use and remove. There is no stuffing before hand or afterward.

I then "purchased" a double wet bag for myself. I love these double wet bags. You can read my review on them here. But the big thing I wanted was a single carry bag for Braden's diapers, a change of clothes and dirties. This bag has two large pockets. Each closed with a zipper of a different colour. So I was able to tell them in the case of Braden's bag, that blue was clean and brown was for dirties. In the clean side I loaded up three diapers ready to go and a change of clothes. I hung a double wipes pouch to the bag (it matches by the way) and put several dry cloth wipes in the blue side. They have access to water there so they don't need to be made wet for them. But if I know I am going somewhere where I don't have easy access to wetting my wipes, I can pre-wet them and have them ready to go for the day.

So on our first day, off we went. Braden wearing his mini starwars backpack with his lunch in it (which included a stainless steel bottle with sippy adaptor) and with me carrying my double wet bag. The double wet bag is brown with blue paisley, so it looks like a decorative bag. We didn't need any other bag because the wet bag held all he needed for the day except his lunch.

I explained the zipper concept to the "teacher". She said it looked simple enough. So off I go to run errands without an active 2 year old in tow. And boy did I get a lot done!

Several hours later, I pick up Braden, who incidentally is having a ball playing with the other children. I asked his teacher, did all go well with the cloth diapers. And she says she was surprised how easy it was. How cute the diapers were, and that the bag system worked great!

The next time we go, he wet through everything however. I figure out they are so used to using disposables they are not changing him as frequently as I would at home. So I had to adjust the diapers that were being sent with him. I chose Monkey Doodlez AIO diapers. Because of the fabrics that are used in this diaper, they last longer than some of my other AIO's that only have a microfiber inner. It still closes with Aplix, still easy to use, just means that if they do not change him as often as I do, his clothes will not be wet through. The other thing I have sent is a Thirties DUO diaper stuffed for nap time with two inserts. And because I don't have to unstuff this diaper, I can just empty the wet bag into the pail without having to do anything else.

So its now about 2 months of going to Mothers Day Out for Braden at time of writing. And a new teacher started this week in the room next door, and I overhear his teacher is telling the new one all about these wonderful cloth diapers!

Cloth Diapers For Overnight, Seriously?

I know you may be thinking to yourself, “cloth diapers are ok for the daytime, but could never hold up overnight.” However, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy cloth diapering at night can be! The key to cloth diapering successfully through the night is all about absorbency. In general, AIO’s (All-In-One’s) are not going to get babies or toddlers through the night unless your child is not peeing much during the night. The type of material you are stuffing your diaper with will make all the difference. When considering what to use as an insert, keep in mind that hemp is far more absorbent than microfiber. In fact, I have not met any babies or toddlers who can make it through the night with only 1 microfiber insert. A combination of the 2 materials is great as you will see below.

Check out a few of the great options for cloth diapering through the night.

1. Lollidoo Overnight Eco Pocket – this is my personal favorite overnight solution. Lollidoos are not only perfect for overnight, but the single most environmentally friendly diaper out there. They are made from recycled beverage bottles and most everything on them is recycled including the metal used in the snaps. Even better, each Lollidoo diaper is made by WAHM’s in the U.S. (eastern Washington, specifically). You have the choice of a stay dry layer next to the baby or an organic cotton layer next to the baby. This is a pocket diaper and you have the option of choosing to purchase a Lollidoo Eco Pocket with innies (their inserts) or purchase one of your own. I personally use an overnight Lollidoo Eco Pocket Diaper with a super-do insert on my super heavy wetter for 13 hours at night. We’ve never had a leak! Plus, Lollidoo Eco Pockets are a one size diaper!

2. Since the key to cloth diapering overnight is the absorbency, you can stuff any of your pocket diapers with a super-do insert. Super-do inserts are the #1 rated insert on Diaper Pin and amazing for absorbency. They have 6 layers of hemp terry covered with 2 layers of microfiber. The microfiber does a great job of absorbing liquid quickly and the hemp holds it for long periods of time. Super-do’s will fit in most pocket diapers.

3. If you are still having leaks with a super-do in a regular pocket diaper, try putting a diaper cover over the super-do stuffed pocket diaper. That will give you just enough of a boost in coverage to keep the diaper from getting clothes and sheets wet. You could also put a hemp stuffin underneath the super-do in the diaper for an extra boost of absorbency.

4. Do you have a ton of hemp or thick cotton prefolds left over from a previous diapering time? Try using your prefold in your pocket diaper! Need more absorbency than the one prefold? You can wrap a hemp stuffin in your prefold and use that as your pocket diaper insert.
As you can see, there are many great cloth diapering options for overnight. The level of absorbency you will need will depend on how heavy of a wetter your child is at night. Have questions? Please ask!

All in Ones

Hi! I am Coleen, mom to 11 (soon to be 12) and owner of Sweet Little Blessings. I think
I would have to say that all in ones are my favorite type of diaper. I know they take
longer to dry, but they are so easy to use! All one piece...just like a disposable!

Not too long ago it was time to replace all of our cloth diapers. They had been used on several children and were worn out. I had collected quite a variety of diapers, but most of my stash was pocket diapers. After years of stuffing diapers for more than one baby, I decided I needed a break! Sometimes I've had 3 in diapers at once and that is ALOT of stuffing! After thinking about all the options, I decided to go with mostly all in ones. I love them! I don't have to reach in and pull out a wet insert, just toss them in the wash. I even hang my diapers to dry and I really don't think it takes that long. The all in ones are usually dry in about 24 hours when I hang them in our basement and in only a few hours outside. Besides, it is really a good idea to have plenty of diapers in your stash so they don't wear out as fast. When the diapers are dry, no more matching up the inserts with the diaper and stuffing them! I can just fold them in half and put them away. Quick and easy!

I love the fact most all in ones are sized diapers and provide a nice trim fit even on a newborn. Not to mention that extra small diapers are so cute! All in ones work well on my little guys for naps. At night, I just add a doubler or stuff a Baby Kicks Joey Bunz in the pocket. I rarely have problems with leaks. For those of you who like one size diapers, bumGenius Organic all in ones are a great choice.

I also really like the all in two system and have added a few of those to my stash as well. Just snap on the insert and you are ready to go. I do use pocket diapers sometimes, but I seem to always grab the all in ones first!
